Rules, Britannia; An Insider's Guide to Life in the United Kingdom |
We received the following email from Toni Hargis that members may
find of interest:
I would like to tell you about my book, "Rules, Britannia; An Insider's Guide to Life in the United Kingdom", (St. Martin's Press, NY). It is written specifically for Americans visiting the UK and contains 22 chapters giving the facts about British life. Since moving to the US sixteen years ago (I am English) I have been asked constantly to give advice to Americans moving to Britain. In the book I aim to give the facts rather than my own opinions, in order to make the transatlantic adjustment somewhat less of a surprise The book is informative yet highly entertaining, and is an easy and fun read.
"Rules, Britannia" is receiving great reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. Please visit my web site to learn more about me and the book - www.rulesbritannia.com. It is available on Amazon's US and UK websites, as well as many retail outlets and other online book stores.
I hope you will agree that it would make a fine gift or suggestion for Americans friends visiting the UK.
Thank you,
Toni Hargis

In a subsequent email Toni informs us:
If you have any criticism (positive, of course), spot any omissions etc. let me know as I will hopefully be doing a paperback, where I can make corrections etc. My next pitch to my publisher is to do the same type of book but for Brits relocating over here. All and any material is most welcome!
Thanks,
Toni
PS> I have an English friend with a home in Park City. I will be sure and tell her about your group!

Welcome!
If this is your first time to the Utah British Isles Association (UBIA)
website, you'll probably want to read
about us, then
read about obtaining a
membership. Then check out upcoming
meetings,
events, and
socials. Being now excited about the
association you'll surely want to check out
how to help.
The UBIA is an organization of Utahns
dedicated to raising awareness of Utah's British cultural heritage. Many
Utahns are proud of their ancestral origins in the British Isles and desire
to share with their children and their community the culture and heritage
of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Utah has a higher percentage of British Americans than any other state.
In Census 2000 Utahn's claimed the following ancestry:
- 33% English
- 6% Irish
- 5% Scottish
- 2% Welsh
- 1% Scotch-Irish
- 1% British
Yielding a total of 48% of Utahns claiming ancestry from the
British Isles compared to only 27% of the total US population!
